Review: eBay Pro Brush Set

I'm a sucker for cheap brush sets and I'm always browsing eBay for them, rather than going out and paying £20 for like one brush. I've had good, bad and mixed experiences with everything I've got. I think this one is a more mixed experience.

So this was one of those times when I bid on a product rather than just getting one that says "Buy Now" and, to be honest, I wish I'd have browsed more because there was the exact same brush set going cheaper on a different auction. In the end, I won the auction and ended up paying £6.98 for this set.

The set itself is labeled as "Pro 15pc set" and when it arrived I was pleased, because it is a lovely rose gold set that contains many basic staple brushes that most people need in their collection. The brushes are really soft and so densely packed, which is great for such a cheap product. You get a foundation brush, many eye brushes and some lip brushes. However, I was a bit peeved that there at least 2 of the brushes the same! These two are also those really crappy sponge brushes that you usually get in eye palettes that no one actually uses. I think I'll end up using these for swatches if I don't throw them away.

Overall, I'm a bit miffed that I ended up paying more for this product. I wish I'd browsed a bit more, but that was my own fault. I think the brushes are ok for the price I paid, but they're kind of what you expect for an eBay purchase. I will definitely be using them and I'm pleased that they feel like good quality, I guess I'll have to wait and see how they last!

If you want this set, I've found it for £3.40 here. Now you can see why I'm so pissed at myself, I could've got it for half the price! Ah, the joys of eBay!!

What's your best and worst eBay purchases?

June Degusta Box

This is my first Degusta Box and I can honestly say that I'm really pleased with it! I mainly bought it because I've seen loads of bloggers with it and I saw a coupon for it that meant my first box was like £7. For what I paid, and just for the box in general, it's so worth the money!

The theme for this one is "picnic box" and they aim to provide you with things that you can take on a picnic or I think mainly to enjoy when the weather is nice. The box was £6.49, but usually they are £12.99 which I think is really reasonable. You can find the box here where you can also check out their old boxes.

What I got:

Kallo Caramel Corn & Rice snacks: these look very similar to the caramel Snack A Jacks which I love! So, I think I'm really going to like these.  I haven't tried them yet but I can already tell I'm going to love them. I've had a look on Kallo's website as well and they do a blueberry & vanilla rice cake I really want to try! A 65g of Snack A Jacks would be 121 kcal whereas this bag is 93 kcal per bag, so you're saving calories right there.

I received another Kallo product which is these Belgian Milk Chocolate rice cakes and oh my days they are amazing. They have little caramel pieces on the top and I literally ate 3 off the bat, then my boyfriend came in and finished the rest. At only 65 kcal per rice cake, I don't feel too bad about snacking on these but I definitely could have eaten all 6 of them if I was given the chance. These are definitely on my next shopping list!

Chilli Love Chin Chin are something that I've never heard of. They're a West African biscuit that tastes like a cake. I got the chilli flavour but I think there was vanilla, lemon and cinnamon you could get. I wish I'd got the vanilla but I actually do like the chilli. It's really weird because at first bite I didn't like them but then the more I ate them, the more I couldn't stop! These are really peculiar and I'd recommend you try them out.

Pitch Chocolate Chip & Chocolate filled Brioche are something that I've tried before when I was younger. I think they're great for kids or anyone that's got a sweet tooth as they are very sweet. They're also great for picnics as you can easily chuck them in your bag. These have gone down a treat in my house as my brother has a huge sweet tooth and loves a snack.

Can I just say, I absolutely HATE coconut water! I know that it's meant to be amazing for you but when I see people casually drinking it I just wonder how they're doing it! This is by the brand Vybe and it is bog standard coconut water. I made everyone in my house try it and not one person liked it. If you've never tried coconut water it basically tastes exactly how coconut oil smells; buttery and fatty. I honestly cannot stand the stuff, I feel like I'm drinking melted butter and oil! EW (this is me not judging you for liking it by the way, you weirdo.)

These Melba Wholegrain Thins look great and I've not tried them but I can see why they'd be included in a picnic box. I think I'd probably put cream cheese on them and cucumber, yum!

These Icycl vodka ice drinks are so cool. They're basically an ice pop, like what you'd have as a kid, but they have a 6.4% alcohol level! I got mine in the apple flavour but they also do lemon & lime and blackcurrant. You get a 20% off voucher with the box for a box of these and so I might get them. I can imagine they're great when you have a few friends round for a BBQ in the summer.

These Zeo drinks are so fancy! I got zesty lime & peach and grapefruit. I haven't tried these but I can imagine them being very refreshing. I wouldn't be able to take them to work or something because I think the glass bottle is quite heavy, but for sitting on the garden in the sun they're ideal. Also, they have less than 30 kcal per bottle, result!

This coconut sugar threw me a little bit as I didn't know what it was doing in a picnic box. However, they have a little sheet inside which gives you a recipe for brownies which uses the coconut sugar. I think that's a great idea and I've heard that coconut sugar is really good. I don't think I'd repurchase this one as it's like £4 for a bag which isn't even that big! If I'm baking, I don't plan on being healthy haha!

The last thing in my box was this Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime cider. I've tried these before and I love the mixed fruit version and the raspberry-peach one but I'm just not a fan of this flavour. That being said, I think they're great for summer and I love fruity ciders for when I'm sat on the garden and I fancy a drink.

Overall, I'm very happy with this box and I'm glad I decided to try it out! I think I'm going to stay subscribed to the Degusta box! I hope you enjoyed reading about what I got in the box.

What's your favourite summer drink?

Home Decor Wishlist

I'm not moving out, I don't own my own home and I literally get to decorate my own little room, but I absolutely love home decor and I am a huge hoarder of little titbits that I can dot around the house. I can't wait to get my own home and be able to decorate however I want.

I tried to make this quite budget friendly, as I know many people will be on a budget if they are decorating their own home. Can I just say, the Asda website has the most amazing stuff at the moment which is weird because I never see most of that stuff in any of my local shops! (Not a sponsor, lol)

What's your favourite room to decorate?

Red Cherry Lashes #747

This is the second pair of Red Cherry lashes that I've purchased and I love these ones just as much as I loved the first pair I bought. The first pair I bought were in #523 and I still have them even after 5 wears! They're very fluttery and long and so I thought I'd go for a more natural lash this time around. I have major issues with buying a single pair of lashes for upwards of £5 from Boots and other places and usually only get them when I have enough points to buy them, or if I see them on offer.

Red Cherry Lashes are super inexpensive and amazing quality for the price of £2.89! I bought these ones as they look more natural and I got them from Amazon here. On Amazon, they are described as:

"Red Cherry strip lashes are popular with celebs and professional make-up artists. Hand-made, premium quality, they will be the most comfortable false eyelashes you'll ever wear. Made with 100% sterilised human hair."

I can definitely agree with this, they are great quality and they feel as natural as a fake eyelash can feel. I am so impressed with these and would highly recommend you check them out! They have a huge range and they all start from £2 upwards.

Rating: 9.5/10

P.S I am changing my blogging schedule to Monday, Wednesday and Fridays rather than every other day. This is just because I find every other day looks a bit erratic compared to set days a week!

Weekend Plans: What to do when you're all alone

My boyfriend is currently away for his second stag do of the month which means that I have a urge to kill him lot of time to myself. If I want to save money and have no plans to go out with friends I need to keep myself entertained. Here are some plans to do when you’re all alone:

Binge watch guilty pleasures on Netflix: I’m looking at you Gossip Girl. These are things that you don’t want other people to know you watch, or what they just won’t let you watch while they’re around. Pft.

Take a ridiculous long time to pamper yourself: I plan on doing the whole works; face mask, nails, pluck my eyebrows, pamper my feet, I might even fake tan if I’m pushing the boat out. Screw you fake tan that doesn't dry for about 5 hours.

Spend some time with someone you haven’t in a while: I haven’t spent much time with my mum lately so I’ll suggest we do something like go for lunch. A walk would be a cheaper alternative. I think it’s important to divide your attention to all the significant people in your life. This could also be your dog.

Get clean and organised: I know for some people this will be the worst thing they could do when they have free time but for me, getting organised is great. There’s nothing better than seeing all your makeup organised and having fresh clean bedding.

Take a walk: For those who hate any form of exercise this could be a bit of a no go but sometimes it’s nice to take a walk. This could be through a park, around a shopping centre or market. You don’t have to buy anything but walking around and just taking in your environment can be quite liberating.

Have a karaoke session: This one may require that you’re home alone. But just sing your heart out! I love being home alone, wacking on music full blast and running around the house singing, especially to noughties tunes.

Get out of the house: If you can that is. Keeping yourself cooped up will do you no good. If the weather is great, sit in your garden. If it’s not, sit by your window and watch the rain, this is one of my favourite things to do.

Bake: You don’t have to be Nigella Lawson to throw together some cupcakes or something. If you’re absolutely hopeless at that, go get a ready mix from the shops. I love baking and it passes the time so well.

Do something you’ve been putting off: For me this is cleaning my makeup brushes, for you it might be going back to the gym. You have this weekend to do things for yourself, so get stuff done!

Take a break from your diet: I personally am on a diet as I have a holiday coming up soon, so if you’re like me just take a little break. I plan on having at least one chocolate bar if not more. Weekends are not for being well behaved! If you’re not on a diet, have a chocolate bar anyway!

I hope this post gives you some ideas of what to do when you have nothing to do. Have a good weekend everybody!!

5:2 Diet Week 1

A couple of weeks ago I totally gave up on my attempts of the 5:2 diet after 4 fast days, so 2 weeks. For those of you that don't know what the 5:2 diet is, it's basically a fasting diet where you eat completely normal for 5 days of the week and then 2 days you fast. This means you only eat 500 calories (or 600 for men). It works by reducing your calorie intake from those fast days rather than reducing your calorie daily so it has the same idea of a calorie restricted diet, just easier.

I think I initially gave up because it was hard to plan what to eat on the fasting days and the people around me were eating whatever they wanted and it's incredibly hard to say no when someone offers you something.

So here's round 2 of the 5:2 diet tries and I'm currently on my first fast day after about a months break.
Breakfast: Bran flakes (107 calories) or just green tea (0 calories)
Lunch: Soup (around 100 calories) or a pack of cous cous (147 calories)
Dinner: 1 Medium sweet potato, baked (150 calories) or a stir fry (80 calories)
Snacks: Apple (70 calories), Grapes & berries are low calorie, jelly (10 calories), various vegetables.

  • Avoid carbs. Veg and fruit is great on these days as you can munch down on a whole bag of celery and not have touched your calorie count hardly.
  • Drink as much fluid as humanly possible.
  • Eat ice. Ice chips really make me feel like I'm eating something when in reality I'm not.
  • Stay active. I know this can be hard when you're tired and cranky, but if you just sit in front of the tv while you're starving you will be tempted to snack.
  • If you have to snack, again get veg. Carrot sticks and cucumber sticks are ideal if you object to celery.
  • Tea and coffee with milk rack up the calories so take this into consideration if you need your caffeine fix more than once a day. I tend to have a cup in the morning and at night & this goes to about 30 calories.
  • Chewing gum can be a great way to keep your mind and mouth busy and is a low-calorie alternative to snacks.
  • Go on 5:2 forums, there are plenty of people doing it & so you can get great support!
  • Research low calorie recipes
  • Download My Fitness Pal to track your calories

Overall I really think this is a great diet. So many people have seen great results and it's good that you can still have a glass of wine or go out for a meal without feeling like you've betrayed yourself.

(Ana Sophia's success story here)

(Carolines story here)

You'd think that you'd wake up starving the day after a fast day but the last couple of times I've done it I wake up feeling fine. I think that's one thing I hated about calorie restricted diets, I was ALWAYS hungry. I'd rather be hungry on two days and know the next day I could eat a bit of chocolate. I really like this diet, which I'd say is more of a lifestyle because I think it changes the way you see food. I hope that I can keep up with it & for you guys to follow me on my journey!

I haven't weighed myself, I don't own scales and that's just something I've never done. I think you can get too caught up on numbers so I'm going to go on how I feel and how I look. I might do a monthly weigh in just to track my process.

I'm going to be posting weekly updates on how it's going and what I ate on my fast days so let me know if you'd like more on this

Review: Freedom Makeup London

I am a huge lover of Makeup Revolution and when I heard about Freedom, who is their sister company, I was massively excited. They promised the same budget price as MUR but with professional performance and are designed for start-up makeup artists that are looking for budget products to start their collection with. As they have launched they were offering 20% off, so how could I say no to that!

I didn't go mental, but I wanted to try things and compare them with maybe MUR and see how they compare on quality. To be honest, I don't see this as professional standard but I think it's great that it offers collections and training for start-up makeup artists! Anyway, the site is really nice and I was actually surprised at just how huge their collection is! I immediately noticed that they feature things that MUR doesn't, such as buying collections rather than just single makeup pieces and also that everything is promised as "professional".

These are the things I bought similar to MUR to see their similarities and differences.

(Top to bottom: Make Me Crazy, Adorn, Flushed & Wildflower)

Pro Lipstick Pink 101 Flushed & 104 Wildflower - £1.
These are both light pink shades. Wildflower is a really barbie pink and I don't like it personally as it makes my teeth look yellow. Flushed is a bit darker and is quite barbie pink but is more fuschia and flatters me more. With both these shades, I do notice that maybe they are creamier than MUR's products, but there isn't a huge difference in the formula. I have to apply both of these very lightly as the colours just aren't hugely flattering for me and my skin tone.

Pro Lipstick Red 107 Make Me Crazy- £1.
I have never had a red lipstick like this before. I usually go for dark red shades but this is a bright red coral and it is very out there! I think you have to be hella brave to wear this shade. I am quite brave with my lipstick shades and I do like this one, it would go great with an all black outfit. The formula is really creamy and shiny, it isn't matte and I think it would be a bit more watery compared to MUR.

Pro Lipstick Now 119 Adorn - £1
This shade is a dark pink and I honestly don't know what made me get it because it's so similar to one that I bought from MUR which I also don't like. It's a dark pink with purple tones and the formula is also really creamy. It is quite sheer but buildable and it would be a nice shade for a daily look if you wanted a bit of oomph. I was impressed with the quality but not the colour.

I'm sorry there is no swatch for this one guys, they were just too light to capture :(

Pro Shade & Brighten Stunning Rose Kit- £2.50
The shades in this palette look beautiful and they are all nudes and rose gold shades. They are quite similar to the Naked 3 palette by Urban Decay in the shade range but the quality is nowhere near a dupe for their products. The really light products are so sheer and aren't pigmented hardly, I had to use a lot of product just to try and get swatched. (Apologies for the quality of the swatches) For £2.50, it is good for the price, especially if you haven't got many rose gold shades, but I would never reach for this over my Naked 3 palette. I actually prefer MUR eyeshadows to these, but these provide a lot less fall out than a shimmery MUR eyeshadow would.

These next two products were completely on a whim.

Pro Eye Primer - £2.50
For £2.50, this primer is great and a little goes a long way. It is very creamy and it doesn't crease in my lid. I did notice a nice long wear with this just for my day to day eyeshadow and the colour didn't fade as much as it usually would. However, I haven't tried this for a full on eye look and it will be interesting to see how it fares.

Pro Conceal Palette Light- £5
This was the most expensive item I bought and it is a palette with 6 different concealer shades. There is a mixture of very light to quite warm which is perfect for very light contouring. There is also a green shade in there which is great as it helps hide redness to the skin. The concealer itself isn't overly heavy and wouldn't be good for concealing blemishes. Although I do like this product, the formula is quite greasy and if not set properly, would most definitely slide throughout the day!

That's it for my Freedom haul. Honestly, I think I prefer Makeup Revolution. I think this company is great for buying in bulk and they have a great range of products, but I just don't see the need to go to a different company when MUR has all the products I could personally want and easy to get from my local Superdrug. Maybe I am being overly critical, it is MUR's sister company after all and so made by the same people? I do really want to try out their blush palettes as they are equally,

if not more, pretty than the Makeup Revolution palettes.

Have you tried Freedom Makeup yet, what do you think?

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Cleanser

A couple of weeks ago I posted a review about a Nip + Fab body gel that I'd be using and hated. When I purchased the moisturiser I also purchased this cleanser but gave it a couple of weeks to see how it worked with my skin. This product describes itself as:

"A deep cleansing, purifying formula for clear + radiant skin."

It includes:
Glycolic Acid: retextures + resurfaces
Apple Amino Acid: provides foaming effect + softens
Olive Oil: gives long-lasting hydration + smoothes

I mainly bought this product because it had amazing reviews on the boots website. But so did the other one so I wasn't expecting much. When I first used this I didn't really like it as I thought it made my skin feel too tight. It has quite a nice smell, almost grapefruity, but I put it back on the shelf deeming it another dud.

Then the other week I was out of my usual cleanser and this was what I had, and through using this twice a day for the past week or two I've noticed a really big difference in my skin. It feels soft and so clean. It gets rid of any makeup that remains and I feel that it has significantly reduced the redness of any blemishes that I have.

The texture is quite weird as it isn't that foamy, but I feel a little goes a long way with this product. It's really runny and comes out of the bottle, not like a thick gel at all but then when applied to the skin it quickly turns more gel like. The only thing I would criticise about this is the size of the bottle. You get 150ml for £7.95 at boots, but I can see myself running out of this within the month if I continue to use it as often as I do. I'm a huge lover of budget beauty and skincare and so in the long run this isn't as kind on my bank balance.

Overall, I'm glad that I gave this product a second chance because it's really become a staple in my everyday skincare routine and my skin feels so much better for it! I think I will repurchase and I may do it at the moment because Boots is offering a free gift with the purchase of 3 Nip + Fab products! This bottle is £7.95 here and is currently on 3 for 2.

I think this is a good example of not judging a brand by one product you don't like and I'm glad that I did give them another go!

Vans Disney Collection + Mini Disney Wishlist

So I saw that there was a new Disney collection by Vans being released a few weeks ago and I got very very very excited! I signed up to their newsletter to be sent an email when they were first released and when the starter collection was released I was very giddy! They had a very cute collection including Winnie the Pooh, Mickey & Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck. To be honest, I thought the Winnie the Pooh shoes were the most adorable things I would ever put on my feet, but I wasn't won over because these bits weren't my favourite Disney characters and so I was quite disappointed.

Today I got another email saying they had added to the collection and you can imagine my excitement when they announced it was a Disney Princess range!!! I know!!! The new collection features products with various Disney princesses or you can also get shoes with just Ariel on them or Jasmine on them. Now these are what I wanted to see! Can you tell I'm excited?? So I thought I'd make a little wishlist of what I would like from this collection, and yes, it is mainly shoes.

Here are some other little Disney bits and bobs that I really really want!

I hope you guys liked this little wishlist and excited ramble about a new Disney collection, I think by now you can tell I'm a huge Disney fan!

What would you love from the new Vans collection & who's your favourite Disney character?
