September Favourites

I can't believe how fast September has gone and I think this is mainly because of how hectic it has been! The start of Autumn came suddenly and then I had so many birthdays! I've been trying to be good with my money and so I didn't think I'd have that many favourites this month. I've revisited old products and also spent my well earned Boots points & here is what I've been loving!

Can you believe I've only just tried this concealer? This is such a cult product in the blogging world and some people love it or hate it. This is amazing coverage but also great when I have fake tan on and I want to highlight whilst hiding those dark circles. I have found that it's better for a night out than an everyday concealer because it can be quite chalky under my eyes.

A hand wash may seem like a weird favourite but this stuff smells amazing. Sam's (my boyf) mum had this in their bathroom and I kept going in and washing my hands just to smell it. I love rhubarb and this is such a nice scent! I was gutted when it said limited edition on it because I then thought it would be sold out, but I managed to find it at Boots. I was impressed with the price too at only £2.15 for a huge bottle. I also love that it's not drying and makes your hands feel clean but also moisturised.

Barry M is easily my favourite nail company and Cappucino & Berry Cosmo are perfect for fall! Cappucino is a lovely taupe colour and goes on so smooth. Two coats is perfect and I adore this colour. Berry Cosmo is another perfect colour but I've had this for a while and it's going quite gloopy. I definitely need to get another one of these because it's a perfect maroon colour.

This was one of the first tans I tried growing up and I remember being awful at it. I stopped using it for a while because I just had memories of being so orange and patchy. I revisited this again when I desperately needed a fake tan and saw this in home bargains for like £2. I got it in dark because I wanted to be very tanned. I think they must have changed the formula or something because I was brown rather than orange and it didn't have that vile fake tan smell, or I'm just too used to it by now. It also lasts for days which is nice because you can wash it off the next day and still look like you've been away on holiday.

I talked about this in my recent post on books I'm loving here and I explained what it was about if you want to check that out. This book is amazing and I've kind of ignored it for the last few days because I'm dreading the ending. That's when you know a book is good, when you're so immersed in it, you have to give yourself a few days off. This book is being made into a movie which I'm excited about, but the books are always better aren't they.

That's it for my September favourites. I'm super proud of myself for posting this at the end of the month rather than halfway into October. What are your favourite products this month?

Happy Birthday To Me!

Quick post just because it's my birthday and I'm officially 20! What?! I swear I was only 18 two minutes ago and chucking my fake ID in the bin with a satisfied smile. 20 makes me feel so grown up! 20 is no longer a teenager and although the wise Courteeners told me I wouldn't be 19 forever, I don't think I believed them! Anyway, I just wanted to quickly post and say I'm super happy with my life at the moment & my blog is one of those things that make me super happy. Here's to being 20 and deciding that I'm not really a grown up until I'm 21 (or you know, 30).

Here's a picture of me when I was all grown down, so you can see how super adorable I still am!

Sneaky photobomb by my brother, definitely not as adorable as me.

I love you guys!

Boots Beauty Haul

I've realised lately, that although I class myself as a beauty & lifestyle blog, I don't actually post that many hauls. That may be down to trying to be better with money or just the fact that I use everything as soon as I get it and suddenly it disappears before I have a chance to take a picture of it.

This time, though, it had got to the time of a month when everything just runs out at once, you know what I mean don't you? When your mascara runs out so you're like, that's ok it's just my mascara. Then your foundation, favourite lipliner and everything else you have in your makeup bag. So, I tried to be good and only get the things I need. This is sooo hard in Boots, they have so many bloody offers on. Ok 2 for £10 on Rimmel, I guess I can get that thing I've been wanting for ages. Ooh, 3 for 2 on Maybelline... Bye bye money.

There're two products here which are rebuys and they are the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent. I always go back to this because it does what it says on the tin, keeps me matte and sets my foundation. I have tried others and I always end up going back to this because it's my favourite and such a steal at £3.99.

The other rebuy is Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob. I love this lip liner and it featured in my monthly favourites a few months back. It's a lovely pink colour and stays on all day. This again was £3.99.

(L-R Permanent Taupe and Berry Much)

My Maybelline purchases were products that I've never tried before, but they're all pretty talked about in the blogging world. First is the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe which is £4.99 but Boots currently have 3 for 2 on Maybelline products. This product is one I always see in a bloggers cream shadow favourites or an introduction to cream shadows. I love cream shadows and this one is a lovely great that is perfect for an all over shade or to help make the perfect smokey eye.

I also picked up one of the Maybelline Colour Drama Lipstick in Berry Much which is again £4.99 and this beautiful berry colour which is so suited for Autumn. The texture is so creamy and I love that it's a pencil as it makes for perfect precision when applying it. I love the formula of these & can't wait to pick up so more.

Finally, I picked up the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara which is so talked about and I've noticed probably the most rated of drugstore mascaras. I, personally, think it's ok. It applies to well on my top lashes but then lets me down on my bottom lashes. It's good for the price of £7.99 and when there's a 3 for 2 offer on, you can't complain much.

That's it for my Boots haul! I hope you enjoyed, have you tried any of these products?

Cheap Phone Case Wishlist #1

I have had the same phone case for ages now and because it was only 99p off eBay the paint has begun to chip off. It's super cute and has little Mickey Mouse faces all over it. I usually used to change my phone case all the time & soon my contract will be up for renewal. I'm thinking of maybe getting the new iPhone, but the Galaxy phone I have at the moment is awesome. So, I'm totally undecided! Instead of trying to make up my mind, I'm just going to admire cute phone cases instead!

There you go, as I was writing this I kept adding them to my basket on eBay. So I'm now the proud owner of the Tsum Tsum case and the pretty rose case. The iPhone ones are so cute and for 99p they're so worth it because they are always super cute. I don't know if they protect your phone much, but they definitely make it look good enough to eat (literally, just look at them donuts).

Which is your favourite?

20 Things I've Learnt By 20

I'm 20 years old next week (29th September if you wanna wish me happy birthday!) and for some reason I'm having a bit of a crisis about it. Now, 20 is no where near old but I think I wasn't ready for how much I've loved being a teenager and 20 just feels so grown up. Where have my teenage years gone?! I'm not ready to grow up and have my own house with plants that I have to look after so that they don't shrivel and die. Anyway, before I go off on a tangent. Here are 20 things I've learnt before turning 20.

1. Don't fight for someone that's not worth it
This may mean friends or boys or whatever. If someone can't be bothered with you and won't make the effort, fuck them. I've had my share of awful friendships in my life and looking back I wonder what the hell I was doing even giving those people my time. I've learnt to love the people who are loyal to me and sack off the people who just have you as a placeholder.

2. Losing an animal is one of the hardest things
I am a huge animal lover and can't remember a time in my life when I haven't had one. I know having a pet you sort of come to terms with the fact that they aren't going to outlive you. That doesn't make it any easier when they go, it still breaks your heart.

3. Treat yourself
I am a huge saver and even if it's a fiver a week, I still feel proud that I've put it away. I'm saving to move out currently, but if I see a £20 lipstick that I desperately want, I'll get it. I'm working my arse off to earn money and so I deserve a treat. Whether it's a £50 perfume or a £1 chocolate bar, I deserve it.

4. Spend time with those you love
I've not moved out yet, but I know when I do, I'll appreciate my parents even more. Sometimes when I've not had a girly day with my mum in a while or sat down and watched a movie with my dad, I realise just how much I miss it. Sometimes it's worth missing a night out with your friends to make your mums night and give her all your attention, I know mine does.

5. Nobody remembers that embarassing thing you did when you were 13.
So many times I'll be trying to sleep and then just a random memory of a cringeworthy event will pop into my head. Why did I tell my brothers bestfriend that I fancied him when I was 10? I bet he thinks I'm such a loser. Nope, probably doesn't remember, get over it.

6. Take pride in what you do
Whether you're at uni, a stay at home mom, a scientist or a supermarket worker, take pride in it. I used to love telling people I worked at Pets At Home because they would be so interested in it and I make sure when people tell me what they do, I ask them about it. I always show pride in what I do, because I work hella hard for it. Fuck those who look down on you, be proud of what you do.

7. Love yourself
I think this is a huge one. I have battled with my weight my whole life and there's always been something I hate. I stopped comparing myself to everyone around me and realised that I am who I am. If I don't like something, I'm the only one who can change it so I may as well love it and accept it. So love yourself ladies.

8. Take time out to read
I read all the time growing up and when I discovered YouTube, I seemed to stop reading. Everything became digital and I slowed down on my reading. I've just fully got back into it and I'm so happy I have. There's nothing better in this world that running a bubble bath, putting on a face mask and reading a great book.

9. Do your makeup however you want.
I hate when I see those stupid posts on facebook about girls tricking boys with their makeup. I wear makeup because I love how it makes my face look and I don't think anyone. If they are dumb enough to think I have a black eyelid and fuschia lips, that's their dumb fault.

10. Pubs are better than clubs
When my friends ask me to come out, I'm so much happier when they suggest going to pubs and bars rather than clubbing. I hate when you get all dressed up just to stand in a sweaty bar, get groped and pay a fiver for a watered down vodka. Also, you don't often get happy hour in clubs!

11. Christmas will always be exciting
Whether you're 5 or 50, Christmas is so great. There's such a happiness in the air and everything is so jolly. I'm so excited for Christmas this year and it's only September! Plus, I use it as an excuse to eat as much food as humanly possible.

12. Bleaching your hair is never a good idea
I am a natural redhead and so I think this applies to me maybe more so. I have dyed my hair every colour under the sun, but the worst one was blonde. Don't get me wrong, I thought I looked great at the time. It destroyed my hair and it literally broke off at the root. It took me almost 2 years to get it to any resemblance of a healthy head of hair. Damn you bleach.

13. You're never too old for Disney
I mean who cares if you're 60 years old and sat doing your knitting watching Mulan. I adore Disney, it reminds me of my childhood and revokes so many happy feelings. Disney is just something everyone can love, old or new.

14. Learning to cook/bake is a skill worth having
I still live at home with my parents kill me and sometimes it's nice to come home and tell them that they can relax, I'll be cooking. Or, if I have nothing to do on a Sunday, I'll make cupcakes. The look of delight on my boyfriends face the first time I made him cupcakes was worth the hour I'd spent decorating them. I love seeing peoples reaction when I cook for them and they love it. Plus, who doesn't love filling their home with the smell of brownies.

15. Yes, your period is always an excuse
I hate when your angry and someone goes "are you on your period?" No, but I will still punch you in the face. However, when I am actually on my period I will use that excuse to no end. Do I need to eat another chocolate bar? Yes, I'm on my period. Did I need to shout at my boyfriend because he forgot to bring me more chocolate? Yes, I'm on my period. Does everyone need to stop bitching that they need the toilet and I've been in the bath for 2 hours? Yes, I'm on my period.

17. I love and hate liquid liner
Liquid liner is a beauty. It can make any look pop and make you oh so glamourous. It's also a giant bitch and there's nothing worse that doing a whole eye look and then having to redo it because your eyeliner went terribly wrong. 20 years has not been long enough to perfect the wing of my eyeliner.

18. Sometimes you just need to do nothing
Often, during the summer holidays, I would do days on end doing nothing and loving it. When I started being an adult and having a full-time job, I felt doing nothing on my days off was a waste. Now that I've been working full-time for a while, I appreciate days off when I have absolutely nothing to do and I can binge watch Friends in my pjs.

19. Holidays are worth saving for
Whether it be a week in Ayia Napa with your girl, a weekend away to Paris with your partner or just a night or two in another city, holidays are worth it. Whether they're expensive or cheap, it's so worth it to save a bit of money and take a break from reality. You can visit your dream places and make so many memories.

20. Be patient
I am so bad at this and I think this is something I'm still learning. When I decided I didn't want to go to uni and didn't know what to do with my life, I was scared. Being an apprentice at 19 is scary because I have a long way to go and I made sacrifices to give myself a better future in the longrun. I'm so impatient because I just want to be in the career I want. Whether it's for your career, or just leaving those muffins in 5 more minutes in the oven (can you tell I'm hungry while writing this post) it's important that you be patient and let things happen when they are meant to happen.

Do you guys agree with any of these? What's the most important life lesson you've learnt? I'm off to rewatch The Office all over again.

Instanatural's 100% Argan Oil Review

The Instanatural 100% pure organic Argan Oil* is meant to be a multipurpose moisturizer that you can use on your skin, hair and nails. I have been trialing this for the last couple of weeks and wanted to let you guys know my honest opinion on the product. Instanatural's website says this about the product:

InstaNatural’s Argan Oil is a multi-purpose moisturizer essential for helping you achieve more beautiful, skin, hair, nails and body. Our cold-pressed oil is lightweight, fast-absorbing and free of fragrances, chemicals, and preservatives. If you are looking to refresh and soothe dry skin, repair damaged hair or strengthen your nails and cuticles, Argan Oil is a perfect addition to your daily skin care routine.
  • Keeps skin hydrated for long periods of time, reducing skin flakiness
  • Provides strength to nails and cuticles while preventing peeling and cracking
  • Prevents and decreases skin cracking on heels
  • Add a couple drops to your hair to nourish a dry scalp, repair split ends and tame frizzy hair
  • Can be used as a daily facial moisturizer - even helps to control breakouts
Argan oil is a plant oil that is known for it uses to help acne and to help nourish your hair. I have used this oil on my face, hair and also on my nails. I used this on my nails after I took my acrylics off and they were really weak and I can honestly tell a difference. My nails are so strong and stronger than they would be if I'd let them go on their own. My cuticles are also staying reasonable and I'm finding I don't need to do anything with them as often.

With my hair, I tried it as a preshampoo treatment, similar to coconut oil and I found that I didn't really notice any difference. However, they suggest using it in between shampooing and conditioning and leaving it on for 30 minutes but I just don't have time for that. I also put it on the ends of my hair before drying and I found that my ends looked a lot smoother, but I could see this being like any oil and being greasy if you put too much in. I am really happy with how it made my hair look and feel!

Now, I haven't used this as a body moisturizer, just a face. You just put around 2-3 pumps on your face and leave overnight. This is definitely an oil and I would not suggest using this as a day treatment. This made my face feel super soft and it is incredibly nourishing.

One thing I absolute hate about this product is the smell. On their website, they say that it's similar to popcorn which is so far from the truth. It smells like a sour, gone off popcorn maybe. You can't smell it when you put it in your hair or on your hands but when it's on your face it's so overpowering. I love this product and I think it's great as a multipurpose item, I just wish it smelled better. I would most definitely repurchase this again, though and for £16.95 on Amazon, I think it's really reasonable.

What do you guys think of this?

Books I'm Loving #1

Young Victoria McQueen has a gift for finding things: a lost bracelet, a treasured photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. All she has to do is ride her bike through the Shorter Way Bridge and she'll come out the other end wherever she needs to be . . . even if that's hundreds of miles away. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability because she knows that no one would understand it. She doesn't understand it herself. And then she discovers she's not the only one with a special gift.
There are others . . . like Charlie Manx, who takes children for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. Charlie drives his precious passengers away from all they've ever known: their families, their homes, even their own humanity. By the time they get where they're going - an astonishing secret place called Christmasland - they've changed, utterly. By the time they get out of the Wraith, they're truly Charlie's children; as unstoppable and insane as Manx himself.
Only one kid ever escaped Charlie Manx: a very lucky girl named Vic McQueen. But the end of that nightmare was just the beginning of another. Vic's first brush with Manx lit the fuse on a life-and-death battle of wills, her magic pitted against his . . . a battle that explodes a quarter century later. Because now Manx has taken Vic's own son. And Vic McQueen is going to get him back. Or die trying.

Ok so the blurb on this one is hella long but this book is amazing. I think I had it for about 3 months before I started reading it (I'm one of those people). I would highly recommend this book if you like horrors because it is such an original story. This book creeped me out so much and as soon as I got into it, I couldn't stop. Although, like most books, I was quite disappointed with the ending.

'Buy my stepfather's ghost' read the e-mail.
So Jude did.
He bought it, in the shape of the dead man's suit, delivered in a heart-shaped box, because he wanted it: because his fans ate up that kind of story. It was perfect for his collection: the genuine skulls and the bones, the real honest-to-God snuff movie, the occult books and all the rest of the paraphernalia that goes along with his kind of hard/goth rock.
But the rest of his collection doesn't make the house feel cold. The bones don't make the dogs bark; the movie doesn't make Jude feel as if he's being watched. And none of the artefacts bring a vengeful old ghost with black scribbles over his eyes out of the shadows to chase Jude out of his home, and make him run for his life . . .

So I bought these two books at different times and didn't realise until like a week ago that they are by the same author, what a dope! This is another horror that I've only really just started reading. It's amazing. The author is quickly becoming one of my favourites and no wonder he's so amazing, he happens to be the son of Stephen King! This has great reviews and I can't wait to get into it.

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class.
When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite. But they don't laugh.
Melanie is a very special girl.

This is the book that I'm currently engrossed in and as cliche as it is, I can't put it down. I wish my boyfriend would leave me alone for a couple of days so I could finish this book. Spoiler, but it's about zombies. If you didn't get that from the blurb you clearly don't like zombies. I love zombies. I have a slight obsession with them and this is such an original idea. I can feel myself loving the characters, especially Melanie. I really hope the ending of this isn't going to be as heartbreaking as I fear.

That's it for the books I've been loving this month. Let me know what you've been loving and if you have any recommendations for books similar to these, as you can see I like my horror books.

Teeny Tiny Wax Melt Haul

Ok, I have a confession to make. I'm becoming a lazy blogger. I don't mean in the sense that I can't be arsed to blog anymore because I am still loving that dearly. I just mean that I am so lazy when it comes to taking pictures! I hear your gasps of horror, I do. I have a very very messy room and literally own nothing white/marble/picture-worthy to put as the background of my pictures. This is something I'm trying to improve on. Lately, I just seem happy to make wishlists and my daft GIF blogs, although I think you guys like them. Anyway, I am going to try and make more of an effort with my pictures and if you have any tips on how to get my lazy ass into gear, do let me know!!

Right, on to the haul!!

I have so many wax melts because I get the Melt Crowd every month, but I just adore them. I am slightly obsessed at the moment because I'm really the only person in my house who buys them and so I buy them for every room. I still live with my parents, if you didn't know, but they don't seem that bothered about a heavenly scented house. I do, so I buy them all and put them everywhere even though nobody notices my nice and thoughtful acts.

Kringle Wax Melts are literally the strongest scented wax melts, but they're just so hard to get a hold of! Kringle candles seemed to have disappeared from the UK and there's just one store in Meadowhall that sells them, but they only sell like 4 different scents. I used to have a lime & that was so heavenly. Pink Grapefruit is one of my favourite scents and this smells exactly like the real thing! It's fresh and citrusy, mm! This was perfect for the kitchen and made is smell so clean. What I also like about Kringle wax melts is that they come in a weird shape but it also means that you can split them up into 5 bits and savour them. These are more expensive than Yankee candles wax melts at £2.49 but they're so worth it, in my opinion. Find them here.

Traditionally, I go for Yankee Wax Melts because at £1.49 each I think they're quite reasonably priced and also easy to break up and use many times. I got the scents Baby Powder which smells exactly like talcum powder and I think this would be great in the bathroom while I'm having a bubble bath. I also sort of bought it for my brothers pregnant girlfriend because shes going through that phase in her pregnancy when her senses are really sensitive and this is one of the scents that doesn't make her throw up. Find it here for £1.49.

Fireside treats is quite subtle, but sometimes subtle is best. It's a marshmallow fragrance that isn't too overpowering and sickly, which I find some sweet scents can be. I haven't burnt this yet but can imagine the scent throw won't be as good as the more powerful scents. Although, I think it is a perfect autumn candle for those who don't like spicier scents. I really like this one and I think this will be the hallway wax melt. Can you tell I take my wax melt placement seriously? Find it here for £1.49.

Well there you go, that's it for my teeny tiny wax melt haul. Do you like hauls like this? I love reading candle hauls and reviews, I'm just slightly obsessed with them. Also, apologies for my ranty-ness (word or no word?) it's just one of those weeks.

Hope you liked this kind of post, I'm sure with autumn coming very quickly you'll be seeing more and more candle hauls on Pretty Mad Things!!

Candle Wishlist

I love candles (screams every female blogger ever) and September is when I enter full on crazy candle lady mode. It's like the temperature drops by 2 degrees and so that means my home has to be filled with warm candles and nice scents. I could literally spend every paycheck I get on candles, but I don't because a girl got to eat. So, I thought I'd make a wishlist of all the candles I'm lusting after this month and cry while writing it because I don't have any of them.

Everyone has a different budget and while some people can afford to splash £50 on a candle (I wish I could) others can only afford to spend around a tenner (ME!). Luckily, there is an abundance of candle companies out there offering affordable or luxury candles. I want them all, so here is what I'm lusting after this month.

Ok, so I may have got a little carried away with this wishlist. Hopefully, you'll discover some brands on here that you may not have heard of!

TK Maxx has some of the most amazing candles and they're so discounted! I love love love Rhubarb scents and the Baylis & Harding Rhubarb and Vanilla cream hand wash is my favourite hand wash ever just because of the scent, so I obviously need the matching candle to go with it. Maple & Whisky is one of my favourite Etsy stores and I was gutted to see that they're currently away and so you can't see their products! They have just stocked loads of new scents in and most of them are Disney themed, so you can see why I love the store. The antidote candles seem so cool to me as they're designed to eliminate specific scents. We cook a lot of garlic in our house and this candle is designed to counteract the smell. Also, I have 2 doggies and when the go for walks, they like to splash in the river. A candle that counteracts their wet dog smell would be perfect.  Another Etsy addition is these cute Fruit Loop candles which are so reasonably priced for their unique scents and cute packaging.

I have always wanted a Jo Malone candle and the green tomato leaf has been on my wishlist for so long but I just can't justify forking out £42 on a candle, so I'll just lust after it from here. The White Company candle is actually on my birthday wishlist and I'm hoping someone will be nice enough to get it for me because I know if I get money for my birthday, I won't end up buying it!

That's it for my candle wishlist! What is your favourite candle brand?

Disney Phone Backgrounds #1

I love Disney (if you don't already know that, you're obviously new) and I love to surround myself in it however I can. Yes, that does mean shamelessly wearing Disney undies too. I think the art that goes into Disney is so beautiful and so magical, so much so I even bought Disney postcards, which you can see here (yes I am shamelessly plugging my own blog).

It's a great feeling to unlock your phone and have a little bit of magic looking up at you which can make you smile. I know it brightens up my day having a nice phone background and so I thought I'd share with you some of the amazing images I've found that can make your phone a little bit more magical.

These are all so pretty & I want them all! I especially love The Lion King one as it's so cute. They're so easy to download and have as your phone background. I hope you like these & if you want me to do another post like this, let me know!

Which one is your favourite?
